Facebook Is Moving Forward With The Buttons Reactions

After several months of testing, Facebook has finally presented “Reactions”. The feature that I have mentioned is most likely not totally new to Facebook users because it is just an extension of an existing one. To use them, from a mobile device, simply hold the Like button then long-press. From the web, you can see the reactions when you hover over the Like button. The newly-added animated emojis can now be used to express how they feel.

Few years ago, Mark Zuckerberg finally made a decision that they should help Facebook users express their feelings in an easy and more effective way. They want to develop emojis that are more expressive than the old ones. They agreed that the new emojis need to actually move and the faces are more animated to deliver the desired emotions accurately. It was then they have created tiny GIFs where the visual details are indeed very communicative.

The new Reactions were initially released to a handful of countries to see if it is really going to be helpful or not. Months after, Facebook made them available to all the countries in the world after making sure that it will enhance the experience of the users. So, it was no surprise to them that many people welcomed the new feature warmly. Among the animated emojis, they have found out that the Love emoji is the most commonly used by users worldwide.

Today, Emoji reactions help Facebook users better define their mood when someone posts a status update. There are six animated emojis available to use – Like, Love, Haha, Wow, Sad, and Angry. The Like emoji shows a moving thumbs up. The second emoji which is Love shows a beating heart. For Haha emoji, a squinty-eyed emoji tilt its head back in a fit of laughter is shown. When you use the Wow emoji, you can see the yellow face tilts upwards. While the Angry emoji shows a red, pouting face and the eyebrows are noticeably more alive.

Are you wondering why Facebook made such a decision which is adding more expressive emojis? It is because they received a lot of requests from users around the world to add a Dislike button. Facebook users find it very hard to express sympathy when someone posts something very sad. It was very hard for the Facebook team to deal with such problem. They didn’t want to add a Dislike button because in their opinion it would only let users criticize each other. To them, it will destroy the objective of their company. It would be very ugly to see people abusing the Dislike button just to hurt someone’s feelings.

In my opinion, the newly-added animated “Reactions” is definitely one of the greatest improvements on Facebook. It definitely made the lives of the Facebook users more easy. It is not important anymore for them to spend time constructing sentences to comment on a status update. The only thing that they need to do is just long-press or hover over the button and then they would automatically let the certain person know how they exactly feel about it.
